Anna Maria Island is an undiscovered Florida favorite getaway of private homes, pure white sugar-sand beaches, sea turtles, and slow island life. Here you forget your problems, slow down, and enjoy the truly tropical Gulf shore climate of sun, sand, and sea. Busy shopping centers, fast food, and business districts are available just across the causeway or down long boat key in Sarasota, but this island is an oasis of "old Florida" local shops dotted sparingly through the residential homes, pure white beaches, and ample docks and water access.
This is our home. We live here part of the year to be close to "mom." Be our guests. You'll feel welcome and relaxed in a traditional Florida Island "Cracker Box" (so named for its rectangular shape). Pictures on the walls, a wealth of books to read, and even tools in the drawer.
The house has two units completely separated for privacy, Twin Palms Main House and Twin Palms Cottage, each with its own personality. They are like children - we love them both equally but they are quite different. Here you will be surrounded by other homes, not condos or hotels, in a quiet part of the island right in the center of lovely Anna Maria Island. Kitchens and baths have been thoughtfully remodeled. If available at the same time, the two portions can be rented together to sleep a total of 8 to 10 while allowing privacy between the two houses.
Twin Palms is the larger unit and feels vast. It features two large bedroom suites and two bathrooms. The Master has a great bath with double vanity vessel sinks, walk in shower, and private toilet room. The "Africa Suite" opens to its own patio, is able to be closed off by dual sliding French doors to provide a play area, TV room (27" flat screen with DVD player), private reading area or as a third bedroom. This unique arrangement makes it ideal for couples sharing a holiday together, or families with kids. Just of the kitchen and large dining room, newly added double French doors open to a sun-drenched side deck surrounded by tall coconut palms. The large 18' x 12' platform deck is complete with outdoor table, chairs, and a quality Weber kettle BBQ. See Pictures.
Due to the success of Twin Palms, we have opted to rent "our" part of the house out for the few weeks we are away during the rental seasonal. Twin Palms Cottage underwent significant remodeling, yet it features a unique island flavor. The intimate setting is compact but features loads of windows enveloping you in a lush, green private yard of palm trees and flowers with outdoor fire pit inside a tiki hut surrounded by comfy chairs for relaxing outside. This is a writer's retreat, but it could just be a respite from the fast pace of life. There are two baths, with the large bath featuring dual sinks and a huge tiled walk in shower with riverrock floor tile. It's a great option for an one or two couples or a small family who really want to escape to private island life. See Pictures.
The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are just a short walk (300 yards/meters) to the west while the watery playground of the inland waterway is just 100 yards/meters to the East. You're in the center of it all. We even offer our boat dock, should your bring your boat or rent one during your stay. We provide beach toys, towels, blankets and chairs -- even fishing poles. Just bring your bathing suit and come on down.
Give yourself time to slip into the island life - slow and sweet. You can enjoy sunset walks on the beach, deep sea fishing offshore or a tropical drink on the sandy beach at one of the many local establishments. (Stays with us typically need to be at least two weeks or more, long enough to get used to "island time.")
